Fotosizer is a Tiny but Effective Batch Image Manager

If you have followed by blog from the beginning, you must have seen a lot of write-ups on image editors. If you haven't seen that yet, do a search for "Photo" and you can find reviews of PixBuilder Studio, Ashampoo Photo Commander, Photopus etc. Fotosizer is just another batch image manager not as feature rich as the three mentioned above but is pretty useful if you are in a hurry for essential editing and don't want to see too many features.

Features and Specifications

Small installer (1701 Kb), not digitally signed.
Clean and fast installation. Creates Desktop and Quick Launch icons by default.
System Requirements:

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7. Administrative right is required to install it. You can run Fotosizer as a normal or restricted user. You will only need to run as an Administrator if you are accessing files/folders that are protected by security on your PC.

You can browse files and folders for images. Drag-drop support is also included. You can even ask it to include sub-folders.
Fotosizer shows thumbnail previews of images to be edited. It also shows details such as filename, original file size, file type of images

Photo resizing can be based on percentage or pixels. You can even set it to resize using preset list of sizes including iPod, iPhone, and Sony PSP screen sizes. You can even ask it to resize maintaining aspect ratio and not to resize if the new image will be larger than the original.

It can flip images vertically or horizontally and even rotate images 90 degrees clockwise or anti-clockwise.

You will be able to apply Sepia, Black & White, Negative effects to the images.

You can manage the image quality and print DPI.
Fotosizer can copy EXIF information (JPEG) i.e. copies information stored with the photo to the resized photo such as: Camera Model, Shutter Speed, Date Picture Taken, Equipment Make etc. It can also copy XMP information (JPEG) i.e. copies extended information store with the photo to the resized photo such as: Copyright, Rating etc.

By default it saves images in the default image directory.
It has a "Duplicate source image folders" setting that tells Fotosizer to re-create the folder structure of your source images in the destination folder.
For example if you have the following:

Destination Folder: D:\My Documents\My Pictures
Source Image location: C:\Test pictures\large\boat_hiRes.jpg

The folder image will be resized and saved to the folder:
D:\My Document\My Pictures\Test pictures\large
It can convert images to the following output formats: .jpg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .tif.
It supports the following output filename mask codes.

%F - Original filename (without the file extension)
%W - New width (in pixels)
%H - New height (in pixels)
%PW - Percentage width
%PH - Percentage height
%N - Consecutive number (index in list of images being resized)
Number of N's determines the number of digits:
%NN = 001, %NNN = 001
%D - Current day (01 - 31)
%M - Currnet month (01 - 12)
%YY - Current year (2 digits)
%YYYY - Current year (4 digits)

It can set to automatically check for updates. Manual update checking is also supported.
Very light on resources.

My Verdict

I find this tool a tiny but very useful one. It does not consume much memory while converts images fast. You don't have to loose much bandwidth to download it but it will perform most essential image management quickly and efficiently. Most importantly this tool is FREE.
