Few days ago I wrote about WinArchiver Virtual Drive which can mount both archives and image files as virtual drives. Today I will write about another software gBurner Virtual Drive from Power Software, which does similar job but cannot mount archives. According to the developer:
The real CD/DVD discs are easily scratched, they can get broken, lost, and even stolen. Partner with gBurner, Your original games/program discs can be safely stored away, gBurner mean that you always have your expensive media stored safely as CD/DVD image file on your hard drive, and use them with virtual drive just like using the original discs. At the office: Program discs and many other applications generally require the original disc to be in the computer's CD/DVD-ROM drive. This restricts the amount of people in your office who can have access to the same software at the same time without the cost of additional discs. gBurner virtual drives resolve that problem for you. No more hunting around the offices for that elusive disc you need to run your application, everything you require is just a click away.
Features
  • Small installer [389 Kb], digitally signed by Power Software Ltd. It supports Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2003 / 2000. Same installer for both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows.
  • Installation is fast and clean. It does not require a restart after finishing installation.
  • At the installation end, you can find a tray icon. It’s right click menu gives many options to manage the software easily and quickly.
  • gBurner Virtual Drive supports all popular CD/DVD image file formats. Following is a list of all supported CD/DVD image file formats:
  • The settings do let you manage few things in the software.
  1. gBurner Virtual Drive enables you to create up to 16 virtual drives (default is 1), allowing you to run your game/program images at over 200X faster than from a conventional CD/DVD–ROM.
  2. The software is set to autostart with Windows (GCDTRAY.EXE) by default while the virtual drives are not set to automount. Both options can be changed manually.
  3. You can change the letter that has been assigned to a virtual drive. By default, that has been chosen automatically.
  • The software uses minimal resources.
  • gBurner Virtual Drive uses “Power Software Ltd Storage controllers” driver (gcdbus.sys) for its doing its job. The driver is not signed.
  • Mounted image files become unmounted if you restart your OS.
My Verdict
I liked the software for its simplicity but few things I should mention.
  1. The software should support mounting archives too.
  2. The software is not multilingual. They should make it multilingual for making it attractive to more audience.
  3. The driver gcdbus.sys is not signed while the installer is signed. They should seriously consider signing the driver because many security softwares by default deny installation of unsigned drivers.
Download
The latest version of the software (version 3.1) can be downloaded using the direct download link from their homepage.
