Microsoft Silverlight is an application framework that is used to add animation, video, and interactivity to web pages like Adobe Flash Player. Microsoft delivers Silverlight as an optional download via Windows Update. You may also download it from their official page.
About the Problem
Windows 7 users running Silverlight often face a problem while updating to a new version. It opens a dialogue
 Insert the 'Microsoft Silverlight' disk and click OK.
Error Dialogue
An attempt to browse for 'Microsoft's Silverlight Installation 1" leads to a folder containing a silverlight.msi but that is not the disk that the dialogue was asking.

The Fix
Uninstalling Silverlight will not help since this is a problem with the Windows Installer itself. The fix is as follows
  • Open Windows Registry Editor.
  • Browse for
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT / installer / products / D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100
  • Right click on it and click to 'Export' to save a copy of that key to your hard drive.
  • Now right click on that key and select 'Delete'.
  • Now run the installer again and you will be able to complete you upgradation of Microsoft Silverlight.
